Has anyone been on the Moon?

For many years, America and Russia were trying to land on the Moon. An American astronaut Neil Armstrong made that dream come true as he became the first person in history to walk on the Moon. He, along with Buzz Aldrin, landed on Moon in his spacecraft called Apollo11 on July 16, 1969. The whole world turned to watch this historic moment. They carried a camera that allowed Appollo 11 to broadcast TV pictures of the astronauts stepping down onto the Moon’s surface. This is what Neil Armstrong said when he put his foot on the Moon, “That’s one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind.”

They took pictures and planted an America flag on the Moon’s surface after exploring it for nearly two and a half hours. They collected soil and rocks to bring back to Earth. These samples have helped scientists learn about the Moon’s surface and its interior.

Did you know there was another important member of the team who brought them back to Earth? His name was Micheal Collins. Apollo 11 spacecraft had two modules. One module carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the Moon's surface while another called common module with Micheal Collins in it, the remainder in the Moon’s orbit. This module brought them back home!
